Every contractor in our directory goes through a multi-step verification process before being listed. Here is exactly what we check and how.
Florida has one of the highest rates of contractor fraud in the country. Unlicensed contractors operate without the training, insurance, or accountability that licensed professionals carry. Hiring an unlicensed contractor can void your homeowners insurance, result in failed inspections, and leave you with no legal recourse if something goes wrong.
Our verification process exists to ensure that every contractor you find on Get Trusted Contractors is legally authorized to perform the work they are listed for.
We cross-reference every contractor against the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) database. We verify the license type, license number, expiration date, and any disciplinary actions on record. Contractors with expired, suspended, or revoked licenses are not listed.
We verify that the contractor's license covers the trade they are listed under. A general contractor license does not automatically qualify someone to perform electrical or plumbing work. We check that the license type matches the trade category.
We validate that the contractor has an active Google Business Profile with a verifiable physical address or service area in the listed city. We cross-reference the business name, phone number, and address against public records to confirm the business is actively operating.
We surface Google review data directly from the contractor's Google Business Profile. We do not accept contractor-submitted testimonials or reviews from other platforms as primary signals. Review counts and ratings are pulled from Google and displayed as-is.
We check the DBPR complaint database for any formal complaints or disciplinary actions against the contractor. Contractors with serious unresolved complaints or disciplinary actions may be excluded from our directory at our editorial discretion.
Our verification is based on publicly available data at the time of listing. License status can change — a contractor who was licensed when listed may have their license lapse or be revoked after listing.
We strongly recommend that homeowners independently verify a contractor's license before signing any contract. You can verify Florida contractor licenses at myfloridalicense.com.
We do not verify insurance certificates directly. Always ask your contractor for a current certificate of insurance before work begins.
If you believe a contractor listed on our site is unlicensed, has misrepresented their credentials, or has engaged in fraudulent behavior, please contact us immediately. We take these reports seriously and will investigate promptly.
